How it works

  1. Choose a photo. Pick a recent, front-facing photo on a plain background. Editing and measuring happen in your browser.
  2. Fit the head and check the report. Move the crop guide so the head is 50% to 69% of the photo height. Replacing the background with white is on by default and can be switched off.
  3. Download and print. Download a 2x2 inch JPG, or a 4x6 inch sheet as JPG or PDF, and print it.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a US passport photo?

A US passport photo is 2x2 inches (51x51 mm). The head, from chin to top of head, must measure 1 to 1 3/8 inches, which is 50% to 69% of the photo height.

What background does a US passport photo need?

The background must be white or off-white, with no shadows, texture or objects.

Can I wear glasses in my passport photo?

Generally no. Glasses must be removed. If you cannot remove them for medical reasons, a signed doctor's statement is required.

Is my photo uploaded or stored?

Editing and measuring happen in your browser. The AI check runs only when you press “Check with AI”: a reduced copy of the photo is then sent to our server and an AI provider for analysis, and Passport911 does not store it.

Does a passing result mean my photo will be accepted?

No. Passport911 checks your photo against published requirements, but final acceptance is decided by the issuing agency.
